Reviewing the language

There are several programs and resources that can help you review and edit your texts.

Spell and grammar checker

The most easily accessible tool is probably the spell and grammar checker that, most likely, is available in your writing programme. If you make sure that it runs while you write, you avoid a lot of work at the end of your writing process. You can get a lot of help from a spell and grammar checker. Still, no automatic language check function is entirely dependable and you always have to use your own judgement when you review your text.

TorTalk

To review the cohesion of the text or to notice unclear words or phrases, it can be very useful to listen to your own text. TorTalk is a program that reads the text on the screen out loud. It works on both mobile units and computers.

More information on TorTalk and how to download it you find under "Read articles and compendiums using speech synthesis" on this page:

Grammarly

Students writing in English can have great use of Grammarly. It is a resource that can be used online or as a plugin for Word. It is available in a free version that gives more support than the automatic spell and grammar checker in Word. The paid version is more powerful though and can be useful when you revise your text towards the end of your writing process.
